Republican Candidate for Congress James Marter is urging parents to contact Schools to keep children safe
Rockford, Ill., Feb 25, 2017 – Jim Marter, Republican candidate for Congress in the Illinois 16thDistrict, is urging Parents, Grandparents and concerned citizens to call their schools and local officials to find out what their schools its board members, principles, superintendents, local police and county police are doing to protect their kids in school.  “We have government buildings, airports, banks, and all kinds of businesses and even sporting event venues, well protected with ARMED security.  Our kids should be protected, now!” said Jim Marter in a statement today.
Marter said, “Washington, D.C. can’t solve this problem and we can’t wait for them to do something.”  Following the recent horrendous mass killing at a public high school in Florida by an armed assailant who killed 17 innocent lives.  Marter has said he supports armed security in K-12 public schools to protect students in the district, not limited to, and including trained and certified Teachers and other school staff personnel, or hired police officers.
“The reality is, action needs to be taken immediately, proactively, to protect our children from sick maniacs using gun-free zone schools as a preferred choice to conduct mass murder.”   The Gun-free School Zones Act of 1990 was introduced by Democrat Senator Joe Biden, signed into law by President George H.W. Bush, and since its passage and subsequent amendments, the number of School Shootings has skyrocketed in America.    Best intentions have a way of playing out into the worst tragedies.
Jim Marter was at farm in Rockford, Ill. this weekend to speak with a limited number of Second Amendment supporters to highlight the reasons why district gun owners want their right to keep and bear arms protected.  The event allowed second amendment advocates in the area to share with the press why they own guns and want to protect their second amendment rights, said the Marter for Congress campaign.  The farm owner demonstrated how to safely use guns, including an AR15, and how training and safety must always be a priority.  Rockford Eyewitness News 17 covered the event.
Marter has a FOID card and has applied for his Illinois CCL.  He is a member of the National Rifle Association, an ISRA member and GunsSaveLife.com member.
“We have excellent Police who are vigilant and trained to react to calls. They put their lives on the line every day. But they can’t be everywhere immediately all the time. The second amendment is for all Americans and it is their right to protect themselves and their families.”
