ISRA Thursday Bulletin - March 22, 2018

Executive Directors Message

Tuesday’s election results are big news in several ways, not all of it good.  The veto of the onerous Gun Dealer Licensing Bill (SB 1657) undoubtedly played a role in Governor Rauner’s narrow victory.  It has been a long time since an Illinois Governor stood up for gun owners and the Second Amendment.  Governor Rauner won by 18,105 votes over Jeanne Ives.  For those who don’t think their vote counts, here is a number for you.  There are 10,109 precincts in Illinois; Rauner won by less than two votes per precinct.  Your vote doescount.

J. B. Pritzker won the Democratic nomination for Governor.  Mr. Pritzker is the gun owners’ worst nightmare.  Here are some sobering facts about the Primary Election.  The energized Democrats turned out 1,251,549 votes compared to the Republicans 690,335.  If gun owners stay home like they did when Bill Brady ran for Governor a few years ago, we have trouble headed our way.  If gun owners have to crawl over a mile of broken glass to vote in the November Election then that is what we will have to do.
Band-Aid bandages will be on sale before then-stock up.

One would think that with 2,262,000 FOID card holders, there would be no question about gun rights and the Second Amendment in Illinois.  You would also think this is how many ISRA members there would be.  Neither is the case.  If you are a gun owner and not registered to vote, get it done.  If you are not an ISRA member, please join.

If you watch the news you will catch hints that pro Second Amendment students are being bullied by groupthink tactics employed but some teachers, administrators and other students. Of course, this will not be reported by the lame stream media.  Now the Second Amendment Foundation has come forward with a hotline for pro Second Amendment students to report being bullied.  The number is 1-800-426-4302.

Spring has arrived and with it comes a short respite from the political action in Springfield.  That does not mean the political activities have stopped; it only means we are not hearing about them.

If you look around the country you will see well financed anti-gun forces in full attack mode in every state, not just Illinois.  We are seeing look-alike bills, such as the Lethal Order of Protection Bill, in every state.  Louisiana, Maryland, Michigan, and Washington State are just a few examples, so don’t ever think Illinois is special.  Knowing this is happening elsewhere does not make the conflict any easier.  We are in an all-out battle all across the Nation.  This attack on the Second Amendment and gun owners can be traced back to Bloomberg and Soros.  This battle will go far beyond this legislative session.

One of the clever tactics the anti-gun side has been using this session is the constant changing of bill numbers.  The Lethal Order of Protection Bill is a good example.  It has had several bill numbers, the latest being HB772.  This is done purposely to make it difficult to alert everyone about the bills to oppose.  This legislative trick is done through the use of Shell Bills.  It is a simple matter to take a Shell Bill, strip out the language and turn it into something else like the Lethal Order of Protection Bill.  Remember: the anti-gunners can do this with only an hours’ notice.  I have received emails complaining that we need to give more notice.  The other side is not going to do that.  I know it isn’t fair but that is the way it is.  Such bills may all turn into floor fights because, until then, they are simply railroaded through.

The only way to stop them is with a team of lobbyists backed by a very large membership.  That is why we need you to get everyone you know to the join the ISRA.
The ISRA is pleased to announce that we will be hosting both a Glock Armorer’s Course and a Glock Operator Course at our ISRA Range in November.  The Glock Armorer’s course will be held November 27, 2018.  The Glock Operator Course is November 28 and 29, 2018.  You must sign up and pay Glock directly, using their Glock Training Schedule website.  These classes are open to civilians and a FOID card is required.

Thank you for being a member.
