Batinick recognizes Route 66 – Lincoln Highway legendary intersection art contest finalists

PLAINFIELD – State Representative Mark Batinick (R-Plainfield) joined Plainfield Mayor Mike Collins and Illinois Route 66 Byway Executive Director Bill Kelly Tuesday night in Plainfield for this season’s first Cruise Night. During the festivities, Batinick unveiled the top 10 finalists in the logo art contest he sponsored to celebrate the legendary intersection of Route 66 and the Lincoln Highway in Plainfield.  Each entrant received a certificate and a commemorative Route 66 license plate.

"It was so exciting to see all the wonderful entries in our Route 66 Lincoln Highway logo contest,” Batinick said. “The artists did an amazing job. We have a great history right here in Plainfield, and this is a great way to celebrate that history."

“The two most famous roads in America, Route 66 and the Lincoln Highway, come together in Plainfield,” Kelly said. “Representative Batinick developed a great public art project to create the logo which celebrates this historic convergence. It was exciting to join Representative Batinick to reveal the finalists for the logo. While everyone was enjoying the Cruise, the legislation establishing Route 66 as a National Historic Trail passed out of the US House of Representatives on a unanimous vote. Route 66 in Plainfield has had a very good night.”

Batinick hosted the creative art contest to celebrate these legendary highways that come together in Plainfield. The winning design will be chosen by committee and announced next month. The winner will receive $500 and their logo will be the featured artwork which captures the essence of the junction of Route 66 and the Lincoln Highway in Plainfield.
