Sense in the census

As required by the Constitution of the United States of America, the federal government conducts a census, an “enumeration (which) shall be made within three Years after the first Meeting of the Congress of the United States, and within every subsequent Term of ten Years.” The purpose of the census is, obviously, to count the number of people living in the Republic. It’s also to ensure that the “Representatives and direct Taxes (who) shall be apportioned among the several States which may be included within this Union, according to their respective Numbers,” are “apportioned among the several States” sensibly. Without an accurate census, the apportioning could skew badly towards urbanized population centers, or worse, towards those willing to put up the most dough. Essentially, the census ensures that those of us who live between Manhattan and Malibu don’t wind up on the business end of a dictatorship run by Hollywood and Broadway blowholes.

In their effort to ensure the information they gather is as accurate as possible, the Department of Commerce includes a number of questions on the census forms. They ask about race. They ask about gender. They ask about income. They even ask about “fertility.” Two years from now, they’ll ask about citizenship. Thanks to that last one, the Democrats have gone bananas.

Granted, the Democrats are pretty much always bananas, even more so when their electoral losses have left them in the government’s passenger seat. But the inclusion of the citizenship question has them so outraged, Attorneys General in the states firmly in their partisan thrall actually filed lawsuits to delete the question from the 2020 count. According to California AG Xavier Becerra, asking people whether or not they’re citizens of the country conducting the census is “another reckless decision” by President Donald Trump, which “threatens not just immigrant families in our state but all of us in the state of California.” Becerra has even been joined in his windmill-tilt by former Sinaloa Cartel gun broker and Obama administration Attorney General Eric Holder, among other leftist heavyweights. Holder called the question a racist ploy “to protect gerrymandering.” Democrat Party Chairperson Tom Perez shrieked that the Republicans are trying to “engage in very not subtle voter suppression.” Perez failed to note that “the Republicans” do not conduct the census. Neither Holder, Perez nor the fool’s chorus of Democrat hate groups noted that the citizenship question was a part of the census in 1950, and then again from 1970 – 2000, before the Obama administration deleted it eight years ago.

Neither did Holder, Perez nor that fool’s chorus explain exactly how asking about citizenship would “suppress” any voting. Perhaps because the charge is sillier than Eric Holder’s stance on so-called “gun control.” With illegal aliens swarming into our country like flies on a dead moose, it seems particularly germane to know whether the public commonweal and the people charged with apportioning it are being properly apportioned. But the Democrats think that’s racist, of course.

And of course, their real motivation to delete questions about citizenship is — to borrow a phrase from Chairperson Perez — “not very subtle.” It doesn’t require a free college degree to figure out why a political organization, one which openly endorses the annual expenditure of millions of taxpayer dollars on illegal aliens, would not only object to the federal government learning who’s actually supposed to be here, but somehow declaim that effort as attempted voter suppression. You can’t “suppress” the votes of people who aren’t eligible to do so, unless they’re doing so anyway.

This isn’t common core math, kids. The Democrats’ affinity for electoral fraud is hardly a secret. Their motivation for deleting the citizenship question stems from their desire to protect a voter base which isn’t supposed to exist. It would be exposed before it could tilt elections — notably the 2024 presidential election — and send boatloads of American taxpayer money to their bank accounts. They don’t give a damn about illegal aliens. If they did, illegal aliens wouldn’t need to hide from and/or lie to the census.
