Former Will County Republican Chairman Richard Kavanagh and Hugh Stipan have endorsed Will County Board District 11 candidates Suzanne Hart and Charles "Chuck" Maher.
Kavanagh served as Will County Republican Chairman from 2008-2012 and Stipan served as chairman from 1995-1998.
Hart and Maher are up for re-election of their current seats on the Will County Board. The Illinois primary is scheduled for March 20 and early voting begins Feb. 8.
Kavanagh said he is supporting Hart and Maher in their current leadership positions because they have done an excellent job and there is no need to make a change.
"The fact is they are very attentive, they know what is going on, they know the district they represent and they know the County. It is very important to know the County when you sit on a 26-seat board and understand what can and cannot get done," Kavanagh said.
Hart has served on the County Board since 2010 and serves concurrently as President of the Will County Forest Preserve. Maher has served on the County Board since 2002 and currently is the majority leader of the Will County Board and Chairman of the Will County Republican Caucus.
With both in their current leadership positions, citizens in District 11 are well-represented in Will County and receive the benefit of experienced board members.
Kavanagh said their Republican opponent, Kathy Havel, has done a decent job in her current position as the chairman of the Will County Republican party but should not be running against Republican incumbents. As chairman, Kavanagh said, she should be supporting her fellow Republican leaders. The Republican chairman is responsible for securing votes for Republicans across all races at the county, state and federal levels both in the primary and general elections.
Stipan echoed Kavanagh's statement that the leader of the Will County Republican party should be focused on helping incumbent Republicans maintain their seats, not running against them.
"Chuck and Suzanne have done a terrific job for their constituents and Will County, they are leadership candidates," Stipan said. "I support the Republican candidates who are in office that have made a difference."
Both Stipan and Kavanagh reflected on Hart and Maher's experience and dedication to their community making them ideal board members.
"Both of them have a great deal of experience and have done a terrific job in their roles," Kavanagh said.
