Young School students are leaving a permanent mark on their school.

On Jan. 31, students in grades 1-4 worked with local artist Amy Blank to create a large wall mural in hallway leading to the Early Childhood Center.

Students picked a shade of blue and carefully applied it to a square on the wall -- creating the illusion of a night sky.

Above, is a masked superhero flying through the sky with the words “Knowledge is Young’s Super Power” below.

Blank painted the superhero in advance and then asked students to help her complete the mural by filling in the night sky.

“I worked really hard,” she said, “but I didn’t get to finish it. Would you like to help me?”

   “Yeah,” roared one fourth-grader.

“We get to paint on the wall?” asked another.

The mural project was organized by the school’s Art Appreciation Coordinator, Traci Dosen, and the school’s Parent Teacher Organization (PTO).

Students in grades 1-4 took turns adding their patch of color as Blank and parent volunteers assisted.
