Congressional candidate’s anti-gun stunt backfires hilariously

Congressional candidate’s anti-gun stunt backfires hilariously

A Democratic congressional candidate attempting to send a message by sawing a rifle in half found herself under investigation by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Virginia congressional candidate Karen Mallard posted a video to Facebook wherein she sawed the barrel off on an AR-15 to show voters just how serious she is about gun control.
“I grew up in Wise County, surrounded by guns. Our family had guns my whole life. We use them for hunting, for protection and recreation,” she said.
Mallard went on to explain that the recent school shooting in Florida convinced she and her husband that it was time to destroy their firearms.
There was just one problem…
By sawing the barrel off of the rifle, Mallard turned a perfectly legal firearm into a weapon prohibited under Virginia’s Sawed-Off Shotgun and Sawed-Off Rifle Act. The law prohibits residents from having in their possession a rifle of shotgun “modified to an overall length of less than 26 inches.”
“And yes, for all the NRA trolls out there; I finished the job according to regulation and turned it over to the police,” she wrote in a post. “Why are you more outraged about me taking a gun out of circulation than about our children being murdered in our schools?”
Local police confirmed that the rifle is in their possession– but an ATF representative said the agency is still looking into the incident.
