This subject is far, far more important to total health than medical people think. In the old days, 60 years ago, one of the first questions a doctor would ask is, "How are your bowel movements?"
You know that many doctors don't bother to check this anymore even though most folks don't know what healthy and unhealthy movements are. A warning: Daily movements of the bowels are no sign that your colon is healthy and not impacted. The color of discharges gives a clue as to transit time in the colon. A black or very dark green color indicates the certainty that feces are old. People with old feces almost always have digestive fermentations to torment them, resulting in flatulent distension which crowds the chest cavity. This may cause short and rapid breathing, irregular heart action, disturbed circulation in the brain with vertigo and headache. Doctors are not welcoming to this possibility. Recently my daughter, who is over 50 years of age, went to New York to a special clinic to get a total health check. One of her main complaints was constipation. Well, they never asked her about her "regularity" so she asked them. They replied that restoration of health will bring regular bowel movements. Never mind that she was desperate for elimination at that time. I was surprised they didn't admit her to a hospital. They will nearly always keep you for heart tests since the modern hospital is nothing if not a heart surgery center. At best, when it's not a heart problem, they can only amuse the patient while nature tries to perform the cure, which it has failed to do so far. Constipation is a very serious health concern. It is backed up toxicity and by itself blocks health and healing in all ages. There can be no colon health with constipation. Nature restored To reverse colon problems, begin by getting yourself into the fresh air, sunlight, drink pure water and exercise, but the chief thing is to cleanse the colon whether for the preservation of health or the treatment of disease. Imperfect digestion resulting in fermentation is a signal of a clogged colon and slow transit time. Fermentation (heartburn and gastritis) can be relieved by cleansing the colon and keeping it clean! To cure disease we must get rid of all fermentation in the system by thoroughly cleansing the colon. The colon is the main sewer of the body. When it is clogged, it is a hot bed of filth and a breeding place for parasites and disease. Internal cleanliness is deadly to parasites. Many people who have regular movements with no symptoms of constipation have encrusted colons, pockets of fecal matter and toxemia backing up in the blood. For health, there must be no metabolic retention of waste — the first and only cause of disease. The restoration and preservation of health depends upon internal cleanliness and you can have it naturally, requiring no prescriptions. For the want of a nail, the shoe is lost. It is so simple, the cost is oh so low and the benefits are oh so unbelievable. Beyond just fiber Fiber is critically important to shove bulk through the intestines, especially seniors who are not active enough. But fiber can only go so far, and if your colon is already blocked, a lot of fiber could make things worse. Well, you all know what your doctor does. He prescribes Lomotil or Immodiumand if persistent, a drug called Octreotide by injection. Of course he will recommend complete tests of blood, stool and urine including X-ray and a colonoscopy procedure. If I felt that my problem was persistent and extreme, I would consent to these tests. But in most cases you need only proper nutrition. Better fiber: First, eat foods with inulin, a type of prebiotic that encourages beneficial flora in your gut to make your stool exactly right for elimination. This fiber resists digestion from the small intestine and reaches the large intestine where your gut flora gets the most benefit from it. Bananas, asparagus, chicory root, dandelion green and high-fiber vegetables like leeks, peas and beans all have inulin in them. Nutrients for the colon: Magnesium deficiency is literally epidemic and increasingly underdiagnosed. Low magnesium can result in a spastic colon. Vitamin D receptors are in nearly every tissue of the body, including the colon. Researchers now know that high levels of vitamin D provide protection and support for the colon as well. Herbal help: Senna, the pretty little yellow tropical flower is nature's best floral laxative. It stimulates the digestive tract and can even flush out infections of the colon. Compounds in the leaves naturally create a ketone in the body called anthrones. Drug companies use these to make laxative drugs, and high-dose senna is used outside the U.S., where they don't rely on pharmaceuticals, to naturally cleanse the bowels before a colonoscopy. Senna is so powerful that a review by the doctors at Queen's University in Ontario Canada discovered that at least three controlled trials compared the effects of senna with another laxative in treating chronic constipation and senna was a better choice than laxatives in every case. Senna, along with other important natural colon cleansers, give you a natural cleansing effect that goes to work giving you prefect functionality in your digestive system.
