Executive Directors Message
There is one week left until the end of the Spring Session of the Illinois General Assembly. When Mark Twain said, “No man’s life, liberty, or property are safe while the legislature is in session”, he wasn’t kidding. The end of the Spring Session does not mean the attacks are over for the Second Amendment, gun owners, or anyone in the firearms industry. As I peer into my crystal ball, I see trouble ahead, not only in Illinois, but everywhere. Stay alert! Earlier this week we sent out an alert on SB337, the latest Gun Dealer Licensing bill. SB337 is touted as an anti-gun trafficking bill. That is baloney; SB337 is an attack on gun owners, dealers, distributors, wholesalers, and anyone else in the firearms industry that use and enjoy the Second Amendment. SB337 is designed to appeal to the hysterically uninformed and misinformed. Here is an example of what anti-gun legislators are going to pull. Late yesterday, Representative John Connor (D-Romeoville) introduced House Resolution HR1127. HR1127 urges all the major credit card companies to consider reclassifying gun sales as high-risk. Keep Representative Connor in your thoughts. Congratulations to the members and supporters in Jackson County. We learned of a resolution proposed by Jackson County board member Julie Peterson, who is an ardent anti-gunner, to support the anti-gun legislation in Springfield. We immediately sent out an alert. Tuesday night, 250 ISRA members and pro Second Amendment supporters showed up at the Jackson County Board meeting. The resolution was not adopted. Strangely, Julie Peterson was absent. We are told it was a family medical emergency. Hopefully, there will candidates for her seat with the next election. Speaking of county resolutions, maybe Jackson County should pass a Gun Sanctuary County resolution. While we are on the topic of resolutions, I have lost track of how many counties have passed; I hear it may be around 30 counties. If your county has passed such a resolution, I would like to have a copy of it. You can mail a copy to the office or email a copy to member@isra.org. Spring is rapidly becoming Summer which means shooting leagues are in full swing in the state of Illinois. If you haven’t started participating in a league, you should get started. If you are near the ISRA Range, there are many to choose from. The ISRA/NRA Open House is rapidly approaching and will be held on Saturday June 16th. All law-abiding citizens are invited, even those who do not own a gun or have never fired a gun before. We offer free admission, free parking, and a free safety orientation. Bring your family and friends! Thanks for being a member.
